A beef with skewing

January 12, 2011 at 9:33 pm (Blogs, Medicine)

I am more or less equally skeptical about all medical practitioners. My motto lately have been, “everybody’s wrong, it’s just a matter of who’s more wrong.” But I have been staring at this bulletin posted in every available place in my chiropractor’s office for the last 8 months. ” FDA may restrict use of Tylenol.” … “acetaminophen is the leading cause of liver failure.” …

Listen, I’m very much in favor of telling people about the risks of using medications, but this is an absolutely ridiculous emission. Specifically that acetaminophen is the leading cause of liver failure… in people who intentionally overdose, and folks who pay no attention to the drugs that they are taking to the point that they are willing to ignore all of the warning labels on their medicines and they ” accidentally” overdose.  How about some accountability here?

This is a problem that I have with everything and everyone. I can’t argue anymore… not about anything that I really know anything about. It’s because I’ve  spent the time considering more than one point of view. The above statement from my “alternative” practitioner was skewed to promote his point of view with an absolute disregard for the truth. If I were to use the same tactics to prove my point I would say that engines are the number one cause of car crashes. Sure it might be true, but it’s meaningless. I notice similarly ridiculously skewed information at my allopathic physician’s office. How can anyone take anything seriously if people aren’t willing to be honest with the facts?
